Performs routine animal care and related duties at the Pittsylvania County Public Pet Center.
The work involves taking complaints, cleaning and maintaining kennel areas, feeding animals, assist with adoptions, and performing other related duties.
Carry out daily assignments as needed.

Assist customers in animal selection and adoption process; Feeds and medicates animals as instructed; Bathes, grooms, and exercises animals as instructed; Communicates concerns regarding animal welfare to management; Cleans kennels and performs other housekeeping related duties; Administers vaccinations as instructed; Maintains work areas in a clean and organized fashion; Assist managers with behavioral and medical exams, and new intake exams; Other duties assigned by the Operations Manager or Pet Center Director.

Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
One year of related experience in an animal shelter setting preferred.
Professional animal husbandry experience preferred.
No history of animal cruelty.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Knowledge of the basic methods and procedures of kennel cleaning.
Data entry skills.
The ability to deal courteously with the public.
Handle animals safely and effectively.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work regularly requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms and repetitive motions and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, tasting or smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions and occasionally requires wet, humid conditions (non-weather), exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.
