Under the general direction of an immediate supervisor, the incumbent reports to and is evaluated for performance annually by the Law Enforcement Division First Sergeant.
Duties include but are not limited to working professionally, cooperatively and compatibly with all Sheriff's Office personnel for the common purpose of fulfilling the Mission Statement of the Office.
The incumbent shall have the personality to interact pleasantly with the public in the performance of any of the various public services of the sheriff's office.
Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity, and teamwork.
The incumbent will perform various data entry, secretarial, clerical and receptionist functions relating to the operation of the Sheriff's office to include but not limited to entering data pertaining to any various civil, criminal, court, law enforcement related actions into any of various software application systems, maintain various case and/or administrative files, validate reports through a records management system and completion of Uniform Crime Reports, compile, enter, and file information for arrest files, enter traffic citations, assist citizens with requests for records and reports associated with law enforcement activity, be required to answer phones and direct calls to appropriate parties or taking messages.
The incumbent shall record statistical and analytical research using a variety of computer applications.
The incumbent will possess the ability to maintain compliance with all Pittsylvania County Policies and Procedures, Professional and Accreditation Standards as they apply to the Sheriff's Office.
It is expected of the incumbent to complete any and all job-related tasks assigned by the Sheriff or supervision.
Minimum Employment Requirements o High School diploma or GED.
(Degree preferred) o One (1) years' experience in a related field; or education and/or training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
o A valid driver's license with acceptable driving record o Preferred, Criminal Justice in Service (CJIS) NCIC /VCIN certified at the time of hire or able to obtain within thirty (20) business days from date of hire.
o Preferred, Criminal Justice in Service (CJIS) Security Awareness Training at time of hire or be able to obtain within thirty (20) business days from date of hire.
Selection Process The selection process of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office consists of the following pre-conditional, and post-conditional components.
At a minimum, these include:
o Examination in computer skills and knowledge o Oral Board examination o Polygraph examination o Background investigations, to include a home visit.
Candidates passing theses phases of the selection process shall be:
o Placed on a hiring list and are eligible to be called for a final interview with the interview panel.
o Candidates that receive a conditional job offer from the Sheriff of Pittsylvania County will be allowed to continue further in the selection process.
Post-Conditional Job Offer Components o Psychological examination o Medical examination, including drug screening.
Work Environment o Works in an office environment and sits for long periods of time.
o May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.

o Light work:
Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
Job Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Sheriff's Office personnel are considered key or essential employees.
Personnel may be required to report to work, even when the county is officially closed, due to weather or other types of extraordinary circumstances.
If circumstances should develop, such personnel's immediate supervisor will determine if personnel will be required to work.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
