Under the direction of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, the Deputy Clerk provides a wide and complex variety administrative support functions and public relations services in support of the Clerk's office.
Detailed oriented with the ability to provide assistance and demonstrate courteous, and professional interaction with public, elected, and appointed officials, and County employees.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Provides broad administrative and technical support, including typing, data entry, filing, calculating taxes and fees for processing various legal transactions; Work with government officials of various levels, employees and citizens in the conduct of Circuit Court operations; Serves as liaison to the public and keeps Clerk informed of public complaints, questions and suggestions; Maintains filing systems, both hard copy and electronic; with knowledge and/or training in Laserfiche; Performs related tasks as directed by the Clerk, including court room duties as needed.

Experience:
Specific knowledge in vocational, administrative, or technical field obtained with a two-year Associate's Degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, business or technical school.
Minimum four (4) years of experience as an administrative assistant.
An Associate's Degree with courses in business fields may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Must possess a thorough knowledge of office methods and practices; Ability to exercise good judgment in identifying and handling confidential information and the importance of maintaining confidentiality; Experience developing business forms, letters, agendas, transcriptions and other necessary documents; Ability to prioritize work and complete assignments in a timely fashion; Must be skilled in various computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat; Advanced communication and interpersonal skills; Ability to deal courteously, effectively and cooperatively with the public and other employees, especially in situations that require tact and discretion, and when answering questions in person and over the telephone; CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
