The Customer Service Assistant provides customer service and education to the public on animal intakes, adoptions and animal surrenders.
The work involves handling customer complaints and inquiries and acts as the primary customer service contact for the Pittsylvania County Public Pet Center.

Performs day-to-day front desk duties including answering phones, greeting visitors, accepting donations, handing animal surrenders and strays, returns to owner; Maintains data base files; Assists with animal adoption process by reviewing medical history, vaccinations and other pertinent information.
Writes adoption summary.
Maintains lobby area to ensure a clean, safe and organized environment.
Responds to customer inquiries regarding adoptions, animal surrenders, and animal fostering.
Educates the public on the importance of spaying and neutering.
Schedules animals for spay or neuter surgery.
Assists customers in animal selection and adoption process; Promotes the mission and objectives of the center through courteous interactions; Educates customers on programs and services and serves as an advocate when dealing with outside organizations; Maintains cooperative relationships with Pittsylvania County Animal Services, other local shelters, local veterinarians and clinics, and rescue, animal welfare, and advocacy organizations; Works cohesively with the Pittsylvania County Health Department on animal welfare cases.

Experience:
High school diploma or GED.
One year of related experience in a pet center/animal shelter setting preferred.
One (1) year of experience in a customer service setting.
No history of animal cruelty.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:
Knowledge of the basic methods and procedures of kennel cleaning.
Data entry skills.
The ability to deal courteously with the public.
Handle animals safely and effectively.
No history of animal cruelty.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
